Dr Tarun Solanki MBBCh MRCP MSc FRCP
Consultant Physician in General and Geriatric Medicine
Dr Solanki is a part time NHS Consultant Physician based at Taunton and Somerset Foundation Trust, Musgrove Park Hospital and has 25 years experience as a Consultant Physician in Geriatrics and General Medicine. He has been a Clinical Director at his NHS Trust and set up and led the osteoporosis service for Somerset. He was instrumental setting up and leading an award winning orthogeriatric (orthopaedic medicine for older people) service.
After initial training he specialised in geriatrics and completed a Master’s degree in Gerontology at King’s College London. His research interest is in vitamin D and bone disease.
In addition to his interest in bone disease, Dr Solanki also manages general medical and geriatric conditions such as falls and funny turns, TIA’s, strokes, Parkinson’s disease and memory problems. As a geriatrician he has an expertise in managing complex patients with multiple organ diseases.
Dr Solanki is passionate about patient safety and quality and has been a member of the Trust’s Quality and Safety steering group. He is Chair of the England Council the British Geriatrics Society.
He is keen on education and training and has been responsible for training specialist registrars in geriatrics and is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr Solanki has been undertaking expert witness work, including the preparation of medico-legal reports and appearing in court for the past 10 years.
