Dr Will Howe is currently a locum GP and GP Expert Witness having worked as a GP partner full time at Lostwithiel Medical Practice, Cornwall for 28 years from 1995 to 2023.
Lostwithiel Medical Practice provides general medical services for 5,000 patients in a rural setting in south east Cornwall. The practice was inspected by the CQC in 2018 and rated as outstanding.
Dr Howe undertakes expert witness instructions, including the preparation of medico legal reports and giving evidence in court, in personal injury and medical negligence cases that require a GP expert witness.
Dr Howe's medico legal career started in 2019 following training with Inspire Medical. This evolved naturally from a first enquiry from the Medical Protection Society and has extended to a wide range of legal firms many of whom are instructed by NHS Resolution. He receives instructions from England, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
In the last 14 months Dr Howe has provided expert evidence in the High Court in Manchester and in a Coroner’s court in Wales.
He endeavours to provide instructing solicitors with a detailed and contextual analysis of any problem within his area of expertise and is willing to provide further comment and clarification when needed.
This may include reports for a Coroner, comment on general practice structure and administration and how this may affect a case involving a GP. Dr Howe has expertise in the long term use of the antibiotic nitrofurantoin in general practice in England.
He has written reports on delayed diagnosis, failure to refer, delayed diagnosis of cancer, cauda equina syndrome, nitrofurantoin, diabetic foot, general practice urology and consent issues.
Dr Howe can act on behalf of either claimant or defendant or as a Single Joint Expert.
