Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine

Dr Gregor McNeill is a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He was first appointed as a Consultant in 2012.

Dr McNeill was National Clinical Lead for Patient Deterioration within NHS Scotland until 2023. He chaired the recent Scottish Guideline Network Guidance Update on Patient Deterioration.

His experience includes the management of adult inpatients with a wide variety of critical illnesses as well as advanced extracorporeal techniques for both respiratory and cardiac support. His specialist areas of expertise include:

  • • Adult Patient Deterioration in an inpatient setting
  • • Adult Sepsis
  • • Intensive Care Medicine
  • • Cardiac Arrest

Dr McNeill can accept expert witness instructions, including the preparation of medico legal reports and giving evidence in court, in clinical negligence cases relating to all of these areas.

He has undertaken specialist expert witness training and commenced his expert witness practice in August 2023. Since then he has undertaken a number of cases, predominantly relating to the identification and management of sepsis.

Dr McNeill has authored many publications and presentations including peer reviewed publications.
