Mr John Cowland
Geotechnical Engineering Consultant
John Cowland is an Independent Geotechnical Engineering Consultant, based in Hong Kong, China, with 50 years of experience. He specialises in geotechnics and geosynthetics. John has provided advice to more than 60 government and private sector clients throughout the Asia Pacific region on geotechnical, environmental and geosynthetic projects. These projects include solid waste landfills, dams, tunnels, mines, deep excavations, slopes, soft ground, coastal reclamations and liquid storage.
John has also provided project management advice for hydro-electric, environmental, tunnelling and water supply projects, for projects up to US$ 12.5 billion in value, and he has provided Expert Advice for 10 projects.
John is a Registered Professional Engineer (Geotechnical) in Hong Kong and a Chartered Civil Engineer in the UK. He is a Past Chairman of the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS HK), a Committee Member of the Hong Kong Tunnelling Society and a Member of the Environmental Geotechnics Committee TC 215 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). He was a Council Member of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) from 2000 to 2014. He has published over 60 technical papers on geotechnical engineering and geosynthetics.
