Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant

Dr Sohail Salam has been practising as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine since 2012. He provides Neuro‑Rehabilitation input to inpatients, outpatients and community‑based patients within the NHS. His clinical practice also includes supporting private neuro‑rehabilitation units, preparing medico‑legal reports, and offering specialist input to private clients as a treating Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant.

Dr Salam has contributed extensively to service development, teaching, training and research, and has played an active role in regional and national rehabilitation initiatives. He previously served as an elected executive member of the British Society of Physical Rehabilitation Medicine (BSPRM) and formerly chaired the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist Interest Group (VRSIG) within BSPRM.

He has collaborated with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), trialling new PIP assessment forms and delivering teaching and training to PIP assessors. Dr Salam has also been a committee member of the Northern Acquired Brain Injury Forum (NABIF) for several years, contributing to regional discussions on neuro‑rehabilitation pathways and engaging with the local Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Since 2016, Dr Salam has developed a special interest in medico‑legal work for Neuro‑Rehabilitation clients. He works closely with legal firms to provide thorough, clinically robust assessments and reports within agreed timeframes. He also provides ongoing input as a Treating Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant for medico‑legal clients across the North East and surrounding regions. Urgent medico‑legal reports can be provided when required.
