Mr Savvas Papagrigoriadis

Consultant Colorectal Surgeon
Mr Savvas Papagrigoriadis holds a Degree in Medicine from the University of Athens, a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Masters of Research Methods in Health Sciences from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. He has been on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register since 1995.
Mr Papagrigoriadis has been a UK Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon since 1998. Between 2001 and 2018, he was the Lead of Colorectal Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Surgery at King’s College London. Between 2004 and 2018 he was the Chairman of the Colorectal Cancer MDT and also Chairman of the Pelvic Floor MDT, Chair of the regional South East Early Rectal Cancer MDT and Head of Clinical Governance for surgery.
He has been on call general surgeon consultant in a centre of major trauma for 25 years and has extensive experience in emergency general surgery. Also served as a trainer of the national training program in laparoscopic colorectal surgery (LapCo) 2008-2012.
His clinical and research interests have been colorectal cancer, emergency general surgery, diverticular disease and pelvic floor disorders, An academic supervisor of several postgraduate MD(Res) and PhD thesis degrees, as well as an examiner at the University of London. Mr Papagrigoriadis retired from the NHS in 2018 and since then has been working in private practice and medicolegal work.
Mr Papagrigoriadis has published more than one hundred and fifty peer-reviewed research articles on intestinal disorders with more than 2,700 citations. He has written several book chapters and one monograph textbook The Surgical Treatment of Diverticular Disease. He is a co-author of the Global Guidelines on Diverticular Disease published in 2025.
Mr Papagrigoriadis has been an expert witness for the courts for 25 years, including serving as a Joint Expert appointed by the courts. He is also an accredited Mediator. His medicolegal expertise includes diverticular disease, pelvic mesh complications, bowel impact of cauda equina syndrome and all aspects of colorectal surgery and emergency surgery. Mr Papagrigoriadis has worked extensively as an expert in pelvic mesh cases, including as a Single Joint Expert.
